THE MISSION OF QUINTESSENCE
The mission of Quintessence's Ministry is to glorify God through our musical talents, and to bring others closer to The Father through a contemporary smooth jazz musical style, while exemplifying the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
A QUINTESSENTIAL OVERVIEW
The concept of the band has existed since 1995 when drummer - Brad
Coloma, pianist - Brian Bautista and guitarist - Ben Regoso
came together on the campus of Andrews University, a Seventh-day
Adventist university in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Originally
an instrumental band, they began doing music for song services at university
religious services as well as cover tunes for secular events such as
wedding receptions and various social events.
In 1997, after founder and leader Brad Coloma
returned from an absence from school, singer Beverly
Regoso and keyboardist Lily Daquila joined the band and the
sound and style morphed from an instrumental band to a band with a vocal lead and smooth jazz influences. In
addition, the primary music of the band changed from secular to Christian.
The band began writing original music in 1998.
Two noted events in the band's history were the 1998 Andrews
University Student Association Valentine's banquet (where the
name "Quintessence" was first officially used) and a charity
banquet held by the Andrews Filipino-International Association.
It was around that time that the name and style caught on in the area.
In May of 1998, Quintessence had its first concert as a Christian band
to an audience of over 200 people in the Andrews University Recreation
Center. The concert was very well received.
Today, the band is comprised of four members. Brad Coloma, Beverly Regoso
and current keyboardist Ben Perez write the
songs for the band while Mike Drapiza plays
bass guitar.
Although the band has been through many changes, Quintessence still
continues to thrive. The band has now moved their base of operations from Berrien Springs, Michigan - where they
have been for 5 years -
to Toronto, Canada and
continue to make a commitment to their music ministry with their God-given
talents.
The ministry of the band is to reach a wide age group - from earliteens
to adults - through its smooth, easy to listen to sound and God-inspired
lyrics. Their goal is to spread the gospel of Jesus, the Bible, and
its truth to as many people as possible.
Future plans include recording, touring, and getting their music on
the radio so that many may hear their ministry. Being called to work
for Jesus Christ makes it all worthwhile.
