First Birthday

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

I’ve been wanting to write about this for a week. But a busy work schedule and the threat of Chicken Pox against Caitlin Ema did not give me time to do so. Anyway, on to the post…

On November 16, 2005, our dear daughter Caitlin Ema celebrated her first birthday! Its hard to believe that a year has already gone by. Our once fragile little newborn is now a bonafide toddler. I am continually amazed by the development of our daughter. Everyday is always a new discovery. Learning to roll over, learning to crawl backwards, then forwards, learning to babble, to laugh, to climb up and down stairs, learning to clap her hands. There are many other things she has learned, some of which I fail to see the utility of, although I appreciate how entertaining they are to me to watch. I just can’t help but ask, could all of this have been a product of chance as evolutionists would have us believe? The more I watch Caitlin grow, the more I am convinced that there is a God who designed us to be what we are, who even designed the process by which we are to grow and develop, who not only gave us what is necessary for survival, but also to make our existence a pleasurable one.

On her birthday we had an intimate celebration. Caitlin, Chris and I had a private dinner at home. For desert we had a birthday cake for her, with a lone candle. We sang to her the Happy Birthday song. She seemed to really enjoy her first birthday as evident in these pictures.

Just as the candle on her cake was a tiny little light, we hope and pray that Caitlin will be a little light that will show the love of Jesus to others, and in that way, spread her light to others. And as the years go by, I pray that this little light would grow to enrich more and more lives by being a reflection of the love that Jesus has for His children.
