Oh yeah, I am a dad!

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

This “dad” thing is great! I actually get a day just to celebrate that fact! Yet everytime I hear those words “Happy fathers’ day” the phrase “who me?” pops up in my head. Then I remember that yes indeed I am a dad! It’s not that I forget that I’m a dad. How could I? With such a cute adorable baby as Caitlin it would be impossible to forget. And with all the diaper changes, feeding, loading and unloading of baby gear into and out of the car, I am constantly reminded of that fact. But, I enjoy being a dad so much that it doesn’t seem like an added role that I have to play. I guess you could say “I’m a natural.”

To Chris and Caitlin, thank you for the Father’s day cards, and the book, “Just Daddy & Me” by Robert Wolgemuth. You know I need that book.

Happy Fathers day to my Dad. And to all the fathers out there, greetings to you as well.

Mothers’ Day Greetings

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

Today is mothers day. Happy mothers day to all the mothers in the world. A special greeting goes to those mothers that have had a major impact in my life: my own mother, my grandmothers, and my daughter’s mother. Although Chris is not my mother, her being a mother to our daughter, Caitlin Ema, has impacted me.

Mothers are a constant in one’s life. No matter how old one gets, our mother will always be a mother, always concerned about how we’re getting along, concerned whether we are eating well, dressing well, taking care of ourselves well, keeping our homes well, concerned about our moral and spiritual direction and many other things a mother concerns herself with. To some, the mother’s love can sometimes be stifling, but we must remember it is this same love that has molded us to the way we are. And if you think you turned out pretty well, then you must be thankful for that love and not resent it.

Mothers are so constant that the things they do for their children are often taken for granted. So on this special day I express my thanks to the three living mothers in my life.
